If you think you like this guy that looks at you rarely (what's that even mean?) and is friendly, then talk to him. Get to know him. Ask about his family - his parents - does he have a pet - does he like his classes....etc. If it doesn't pan out with this guy, at least you've gotten to talk to someone you didn't really know so it won't seem as scary the next time you want to do it.
