Of course parents should have friendly behavior with their children. Relationship of parents and children is too sensitive to discuss. As the children learn every thing from their parents like how to express the feelings, how to behave with others, how to love etc.
If parents have a healthy relationship with their children, it'll give a healthy view of life to children, and if parents don't give a significant importance to their relation with children then it'll spoil the children' life unconsciously.

Sometimes parents think that they should keep a distance with their children and should not mix up with them like a friend because it is against their relational dignity. But they are wrong, because they don't analyze the fact that the gap between parents and children creates a negative impact on the child personality.

The children that don't have a good and friendly relation with their parents , can't face the world bravely, can't be so confident as they need, can't be so social as a human being should be and more importantly can't have strong relation with others in their lives.
Sometimes the communication gap between the parents and children affects the children too negatively that they lose their own personality and sometimes indulge in some anti social activities and can become a problem for the whole society as well.

There is NO one good method to parenting. Each child is different and will adhere to different rules. I suppose you even parent each child differently. I do believe you should have friendly behavior with your children. And then be able to discipline your children in a loving manor. Even though at the time it probably doesn't seem loving for either one of you.

I, from a 12 year old's prospective, would agree to being more open to a parent, when they are kinder, and you feel that they are being more like a friend, that your business is safe with them. If a kid feels sad, ofton times they (or atleast me) wont approach a mother, but a friend, because they wont judge me to The extrems.

I am not at all impressed with your advice. Cardinal principle #1 in raising children is that parents need to be parents to their children, not their friends.

Parents should have a friendly relationship with their children. When I say children, to me a child is anyone under the age of 18. But they also have to know where to draw the line between these are my children and not my best friend or spouse. Children should be allowed to be children and grow up in a kid-friendly environment. When parents bring children into adult conversations and adult environments, then that line is being crossed.

Parents should have nurturing behavior above all else . . . It just so happens that "Friendly" fits right into that same category along with Respect and Love.
