Oh, completely! What they seem to forget, though, is that it’s just as awkward for us moms!
As the mother of four teenagers – one who has a horrible habit of playing x-box in just a towel – I’ve seen my fair share of nakedness. It’s funny how differently my sons and daughters act about the whole thing!
My oldest son is twenty, and I came home last week to find him getting changed with his bedroom door wide open. He nearly jumped out of his skin when I told him to put some pants on! He was clearly mortified, and avoided eye-contact for the rest of the day.
I’ve got a fourteen-year-old son as well, and he goes bright red if I so much as see him with his shirt off.
My husband died when the kids were young, and I’ve always wondered if the boys are so awkward about being caught naked just because I’m their mom. One of my daughters will quite often ask me to adjust her bra straps for her, and the other one is always wandering into my room in her underwear to borrow my hairdryer.
I think it’s a gender thing, really. Girls tend to be more comfortable being semi-clothed around their mother, whereas boys seem to think they’ve been violated if they’re caught without their pants. It’s funny, really – they’d save themselves (and me!) a lot of trauma if they’d just make sure they had their clothes on or the bedroom door shut!
