He is one of two things, ignorant or comfortable with you. If he's ignorant, he ignores your needs and always tries to satisfy his friend's needs instead of yours. If he's comfortable around you, then he doesn't find it awkward to talk to you about important matters of your relationship and knows you'll understand if he helps a friend.
