Just explain that you need a healthy balance of friends and him, not for your sake, but for the relationship to work. If he's giving you far too much attention then he must understand that the relationship will turn stale very quickly, just nicely mention that you want to keep the relationship special, and for him to actually give you a chance to miss him instead of flooding you with constant clingy attention.

If the relationship is just beginning then he is doing this probably because he wants to make sure you know he loves you. He wants you to know that he will be there to protect you, and care for you. If you don't feel comfortable with him being so clingly, either brake up with him or ask him to give you a little more lee way. If you don't feel comfortable, then this relationship will probably not be as strong as you would like it to be. But you also need to trust in yourself that you have enough confiedence to ask him straight up and trust him that he will be honest. Good luck.

Have a nice heart to heart talk with him and say you need to breathe.  I hope he will understand.  Just explain to him that his giving you too much attention and it's too much for you right now, but let him know how you are still nuts about him, okay

I think that some people are clingy because of something that has happened to them in the past such as being jaded by an ex love or maybe as a child they experienced parents going through a divorce, hope that helps
