I'm being left out by best friends who all love one TV show which I have tried watching but don't like. They are oblivious to the fact that I'm left out since I don't get the joke or can't contribute. What should I do?

What to do if you are feeling left out by best friends

Deep down, you will know whether your feeling of being 'left out' is really about not liking the TV show or something more serious. Sometimes something silly like a TV show or a brand of jeans is used by cruel people as a way of pushing out one individual. Here's what you should do:

• Be honest with yourself

Are these people really any good for you? Are they being cruel or are you being too sensitive. I think you'll know the answer. If they're being cruel, dump them. It's a big, brave step but worth it.

• Don't let them see they've upset you

Next time the topic of that TV show comes up, just shrug. Don't let them know that you're bothered by the conversation. Smile and move on.

• Find some real friends

All your life you will collect people. Along the way you'll drop the ones that are wrong for you (or to you) and hold tight to the ones who are kind to you.

Good luck. X

Just don't be there when they watch that show. Also if you show that you're grumpy, they might get the sense that they should be leaving you alone. If you're upset about not hanging out with them as much, just get together doing something else like roller skating or going out for pizza.
