All the time!!  But you know what?  It's their problem.  It's their ego and they are feeding the beast.  You can be happy and calm and fulfilled without having to hurt anyone.  But, as far as allowing anyone to run over you and not return what they borrow...that's your issue.  You need to decide where your boundaries are and make certain that you yourself understand that you have the right to protect yourself and your property.  If someone borrows from you and doesn't return something, then never loan them anything again.  If you are a giving person, just remember that if you loan something, you might be giving it, so think before you open your heart and your hand.
When you become comfortable and confident in your kindness, you will attract the same kind of people to you.  If you are uncomfortable with the way you are, you will attract people that will not treat you properly.  So, work on how you feel about you and things will work out on the outside of you.  =)  And when the occasional person comes along that isn't so nice, you will be able to handle it.

It has happened many times in my life. But I made a conscious decision about this . I decided that no matter what the comeback, that i would not allow them to stop me from being the person i am. I like to help people and thats why i became a nurse. I have put myself out many times and got no thanks for it. But that is their problem not mine. I chose to work with severely mentally handicapped. But if I was in it for the praise i would have chosen general nursing were people thank you regularly and even give you gifts. With my clients you get none of that. So I apply this in my life. I feel good about myself when I do a good turn for someone and i expect nothing in return. That way I will never be disappointed. :)

Definitely, but you'll find that where ever you go. There will always be someone there taking advantage of someone else. Nothing we can really do though, just don't let their insecurities get the best of you, be yourself and don't stoop to their level, don't let what they do effect you.

Yes. Yes. Yes.  In addition, I've also been thought of as easy to fool. When they find out I am smart, they get angry at me.

Knowledge seems to be the intimidating factor, early on in life I had a school teacher that taught the class that knowledge is something no one can take away from you, once you have it,but others will find it intimidating....Thanks for your answer.
