Toddlers generally cry and scream in their sleep for the same reason many adults do – Nightmares. Nightmares occur in a child's sleep as a result of developmental changes in the child's body as well as his or her mental development, anxiety and other issues. Frequent nightmares may be caused as a result of seeing a scary visual on television or any related reason. Toddlers also cry and scream as they experience bad sensations of being away from their parents.
The best thing to do in such situations is to comfort you child and ensure him or her that you are around. Be with the child until he or she is calm and goes back to sleep. Make the child develop a sense of security and he or she will gradually be less scared and in turn experience lesser nightmares.
