In some aspects of winter's answer I agree with. My youngest was around that age, he would do the same. It worried me so much because he could not even feel me holding him or talking to him. I spoke to his pediatrician, and they were nightmares...the social life thing was stretching it a little but, it could be from tv or something going on that day that may have scared him. Then one day with my son, they just stopped. If this really concerns you, talk to your child's doctor for reassurance. My boys are 6 & 13 now and I still need a little reassurance once in a while. One thing that you could try is reading him a happy story before lights out. Maybe hearing your soothing voice & soft touches will comfort him enough to chase away the heeby-jeeby's. Here is my philosophy... Being a worried mom, is being a good mom.

He could be having a nightmare. He could be worried about something going on in his social life and his family life. Yeah...kids that age can worry about stuff like that. If he looks troubled during the day, ask him about his problem.
Or that could be how he sleeps...my brother sleeps with his bottom sticking up.
