Many times it is physical, sexual or psychological abuse.
Things may get so bad at home that they choose to runaway
or feel it's the only choice they have. There could be other reasons
too like a boyfriend/girlfriend becomes an influence telling them they
would be better off to leave etc. Best thing is for them to get some
counseling and get the help they truly need. Running away is never
a good idea-nowadays there are places that can help to where
teens have more options rather than run away. Hope this helps.

I ran away to escape abuse. My mother was an abusive controlling psycho. My step dad use to step in when I was small and she got out of control. As I got older and tried to defend myself, he acted like I was the problem. We had my stepfather so worked up from our fighting that he punched a hole in my door one night. That was scary and I new I could not deal with 2 angry adults. I ran away that night and did not come back.

I ran away due to I was under so much stress...struggling to keep my grades up and no physical or mental help from neither of my parents..also cause they never trusted anything I said although I had no reason to lie.I ran away also to see what it was like on my own,it was fun not being told what to do and feeling way more free than I ever had in my life.

Teenagers often feel pressured. Some more then others. There is no exact answer to why many teenagers run away, each case is different.
