Long time steady boyfriend has gotten me a birthday card and money each year for all the years. This year he got me neither. It hurts. Should I say something to him?

My question is - if he is your long-time boyfriend, why WOULDN'T you talk to him about this and let him know how you feel? Get your thoughts together and approach this in a calm manner. Don't use the words "never" or "always", as in - you never get me anything for my birthday - or - why do you always laugh at me. If the conversation does not bring you any peace, then you can tell him that you are re-thinking this relationship and there might be a change in his near future.

Note to self: If you cannot talk to your boyfriend about things that bother you, what's the point of having a boyfriend?

What (if anything) did he say about it?  If he's such a 'long time' boyfriend, then you 'should be' at a stage where you can talk about what bothers you.

Perhaps he is in a difference financial position than previous years .. Who knows.

Personally, I have never been one to 'expect' a gift for any occassion.  As a child .. Yeah sure, that was different .. But now as an adult I am of the opinion once it becomes 'expected' .. It is no longer a 'gift'.
