Hes definitely interested in you but as a friend for now and future GF or just a friend. It appears to me that he isn't sure of himself and doesn't know what to do here so don't push him. Just be friends for now and let Nature run its course but a lot depends on what you want here too. If you want more then every so often give him a sign like ask him if he wants to go see a movie sometime and watch his reaction as that will tell you how interested in you he really is. If he turns you down, don't fall apart and stay friends and wait for another opportunity to present itself like a school dance or whatever.
