My friend is fat but she thinks she is incredibly hot and every guy likes her???? Annoying!!!! I'm not fat-shaming anyone. I really appreciate her as a friend but I'm only pointing out a fact.

Dear Ashton Catan,

Even in our fat-shaming, woman-hating culture I personally think many if not most men secretly do prefer a woman with some meat on her bones... maybe your friend thinks she is hot because the guys around her have given her that impression.

in traditional Hawaiian society, feminine beauty meant six feet tall, at least 200 pounds; those men appreciated women with some heft!

Here is the Venus of Willendorf, carved in Austria some 22,000 years B.C., an ideal of femininity neither slender nor young.

You'll discover that most of us -- and that includes thee and me -- are not quite as attractive as we like to think. (Well, I am, actually, but I don't like to boast.) Take a look at this lady:

We all do it.

Of course, some people are what we might call obese but that doesn't rule out being "hot". If this young lady was willing to share that slice of cake with me I'd find her very attractive indeed.

To a lot of men, "incredibly hot" means "sexually enthusiastic."

Unless a man is a necrophiliac, "sexually enthusiastic" trumps looks and weight 25 hours a day, 8 days a week.

I used to chat with a woman in the UK that said "A Right fit bird." was equivalent to a "Hot Girl" here . . . I love the subtle differences.

Yes, different ways of saying things often provide additional insight.

Perhaps you might learn a thing or two from her positive attitude . . Apparently it is Great Self Esteem that make the boys like her so much . . . Instead of pointing out a negative, find that which you can apply positively to your life learned from your friend . . .

Then do the "Big Girl" thing and THANK HER for teaching you that . . . After all, I AM just pointing out a fact here.

Normally friends tell other friends what they need to hear.

In this climate of unreality, where "body acceptance" means accepting unhealthy life styles and the fat acceptance movement is disconnected from reality one must not say anything here.

You will see all sorts of answers confirming this unreal position, from the relativistic to the local exceptions that are rare. The fact of the matter, especially in the majority of societies on earth, is that men prefer by a wide margin women that are within one standard deviation of the body type norm.

Hold your advice to your friend ( I assume fat means obese to you ) and she will come up against reality herself. What she does with that reality is her business.

Most of the guys I know think confident girls are hot. You friend sound very confident, so it stands to reason they would think she is hot. Sounds like you could use a bit more of her confidence.
