Yep. It was the unlikeliest relationship you could imagine. When I was in my early twenties, two people from our group of friends absolutely detested each other. Each criticised the other behind their backs and they were scarcely civil, even when with friends. Nobody believed it when they married.
I met them again when they were in their 60s and found that their relationship had developed on a diet of bigotry and racial hatred. They had become ugly, unpleasant people, yet in their mutual detestation of anybody who was not of their race or beliefs held them together. It was the strangest thing.
The husband has since died. I'm not sure if the wife is alive.
