When you have a conversation with someone and they say something you don't understand, you should not feel embarrassed to say, "You know, that was a little confusing for me to follow. Could you say that again because I didn't understand you the first time?"

So it's a couple of days after the initial conversation and you're still not sure what he meant, if this were me, I would just ask. Tell him that you don't want to sound stupid - but what he said the other day was a little confusing and you were wondering if he would explain what he meant.
