I would have kept going and not looked back.....if she needs money...let her sell her Lexus and take the bus.
This evening I was at a large grocery store leaving when a women had a sign up she needed money for food, the funny thing she had her baby on top of her Lexus and I had no money what would you do??
I would have offered to buy her some baby formula. A lexus doesn't mean anything, she may have just lost her job a week prior. It may have not even been her lexus...
Let her know where there are places that can help her. There are several food banks in my area and I would direct her there.
Hey Otis, happy B day buddy I was trying to find the other thread couldn't find it hope you're doing well
It's the holiday season, Otis. Everyone wants to reach out and help someone. However, because it's the holiday season, don't let your emotions get the better of you. Direct her to the nearest church or food pantry. They are equipped to handle these kinds of needs and can quickly assess if the person is legit or trying to scam someone.
In Iowa, just a few days ago, a local businessman stood with two panhandlers with his own sign - "offered jobs; these two refused to work."
Two guys were holding signs up that they needed food or whatnot. A local businessman needed holiday help - offered these two young guys jobs, not once but twice. They told him they'd rather beg than work. So he got his own sign and stood there with them.
I'm glad you wanted to help, Otis, and felt bad you didn't have any cash. Just be careful.
You sound like a good hearted person. I have the same problem. I do what leaves me feeling that I have done the right thing. That is very important to me. The bible says "there is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving" and it also says that "if you don't work shouldn't eat". So if a person fools me into thinking they need something and they really don't, that's something they have to live with. I then on the other hand, have the comfort of enjoying the "happiness in giving"
