Yes. It is possible to stay in touch with someone for a long time as long as you have something in common and can carry on being interesting to each other. It is exciting when you meet someone but when it is on the Internet you have to take extra care that you are safe.

The person that you are chatting to may say that they are your age and have the same interests, but how can you be sure that they are not really a sexual predator armed with an axe?

The rules for this are the same as if you were going on a blind date. Do not agree to meet in a secluded place and make sure that you spend the entire time of your meeting in a public place.
