Losing control. People not respecting them. Things changing and not being able to keep up (technology). Getting closer to death. Realizing regrets.

Aches, Pains, unfulfillment, Regrets, Lonliness, Wisdom makes you firmer as well.  'time is running out' aspect. Harder to relate to the world because of changing times/ traditional changes.  Especially if the person is particularly behing the times and unwilling to accept the unknown.  People don't use as much humor around elderly as a natural habbit... But if you crack some jokes or just fill them in on the lastest and greastest they will feel acceptance and belonging.  Life takes it toll spiritually for some, their grouchy exterior highlights the amount of challenges they faced and were affected by.  Ego and self esteem change with age too. When we are young we feel the attention and our own confidence.. With age, the dating or social market gets slimmer.  Therefor they live with lessened confidence and self esteem. Try give them a compliment from time to time. Certain personality traits like a short temper or lack of patience are never overcome and it builds to severity.
The physical aspect is common though.  Seriously how would you feel if just going up a flight of stairs hurts every joint, bone or muscle in your body. Dizziness, short of breath, your heart pounding and your pace sluggish?  The senses become diminished too.  Glasses to read, hearing device, can't smell the burning food, and can barely taste the flavor of the food. Not to mention having to baby bite your food so your dentures stay in....
You see everything gets harder. EVERYTHING....
The weight of family matters and their roles can submit to stress and tempermants.
Remember the way it felt when the group was able to and you were the only one who could not. Or the last one everyone is waiting on? It don't feel good to be embarrassed or feel inferior.  Or that your physical decline is holding everyone else back..
I could go on forever why they have angry or grouchy rights... But you will have to figure out other relative issues on your own...
Hope this helped.

when people get older they realize that thaey have not fullfilled their dreams and aspirations.  They come to th realization that they wasted so much time.  That instead of taking care of themselves along the way  they put all their energy into family which is okay exept that they left no time for themselves.  Also some of these older people are working at jobs they feel are beneath them or not desirable to them.  Another issue that makes them mean could be the idea that their children didnt turn out the way they wished they would and being taken for granted by these grown children.

I haven't noticed any anger from older people. But maybe it is pain? Like back pains or something. I don't know really what you mean.
