My son pointing at a stone on my driveway said in his developing vocabulary, proudly "stone".

"Well done Simon, that is a special stone, called a pebble"

"Pebl"

"Well done, and what's its name?"

"Eric"

Eric has been the name of many inanimate objects since.

I've told this story before but many years ago when the world was still innocent and I still *ugh* shaved I stepped out of the shower one morning, dried off, and without dressing stood at the basin to shave.

One of the toddlers walked in, looked up, grabbed, tugged, and said, "Toot! Toot!"

I nearly cut my throat.

That little boy is in his middle 40s now but it's not the kind of thing you forget.

So very true! We had one call it "daddy's poop" when he hopped out of the shower one time and that's when we decided it was time to be modest again! LOLOLOLOLOL!

My 4 year old niece does not yet grasp the concept of days and time in general, so she measures everything in "sleeps". "Two more sleeps until my dad comes home" "how many sleeps until my birthday?"

She asked about my birthday just a few weeks after it had passed, and when I told her the next wouldn't be for another year she muttered to herself "woah, that's a lot of sleeps"

Not so much cute, but very special for me:

Our oldest boy happened to be gifted (apparently, according to his private tutor in middle school) in playing the oboe; and the guy wanted him to get into some special program that was available.

Our son wasn't too keen on the idea. So, I talked to him about it, opening with "I understand you are very good at playing the oboe."  (Hey, I'm tone deaf---I did what I could.)

His response was: "Dad, I'm good at a lot of things---I just don't want to play the oboe."

And it turned out that both of those statements were absolutely true.

When I was a child (7---yes, that correct) I decided that I wanted to have kids and raise them properly.

I did both.

Comments from our boys like that provide the ultimate confirmation of my wife's and my success at that. (We brought a lot of knowledge about child rearing into our marriage.)

Example:

When we are hand sanitizing our hands I tell Jr "lets kill the germs" When he wants the hand sanitizer he will say "wash germs!" Lol! He's kind of got a point there!

My dolly who at the tender age of 18 months could throw a ball accurately, came to me at 6 and said, "You really should put me in Soccer, I'd be very good at it." and she really was.

She stopped eating mayonnaise in 2nd grade because she said every one should stop eating mayo after 2nd grade. She was such a funny little thing. :))

When my daughter was very young, we had a power outage all over our town, so no lights or t.v., etc.  She looked at me and said "You ruined everything!"
