My wife just told me she was born male but lived as a girl and had a sex change at 18. I'm floored! What do I do? I do love her...

That's a tough situation to be in.

On one hand, you love the person you love, no matter what they haven't told you...

On the other hand, keeping that from you is a little unfair imo.

Hope things work out ok!

Yeah we been married 5 years and have a good marriage. I'm going to make this work. But we are going to talk about trust issues

I do love her. She told me we saw on TV about transgendered people she said she was just always female and didn't think it was a big deal.

Hi John,

as Kass said, that's not an easy situation to be in.

Maybe she didn't tell you at first because she was too scared of your opinion and scared of losing you. I'm not justifying her, but I think she might have had insecurities and issues that played into her decision.  It's still a big omission though, so it's better to discuss some trust issues together. Is this the only time you had a reason to doubt about her honesty?

As you said though, you've been together for 5 years and still have a good marriage. If both of you see her like a woman, I cannot see why it couldn't work. Plus, if you love this person then there's more to it than that... I mean, I know that gender issues are a big deal in a relationship, but you found yourself to be in love with this person regardless of her past. Just think about all the good things that you have shared with her and think about her. Do they outweight the fact that she was born a male? Or does it make you love her less? Then maybe your relationship wasn't grounded that solidly.

Either way, it is really admirable that you are trying and make it work. I would work more on the trust and then listen carefully to how you feel when you're around her and without her. I hope this will work out good for both of you. Best of luck!
