People might be afraid of you for any number of reasons.
- You demonstrate by your behavior or dress that you are not like them, that is, you have different values
- You invade their personal space, or give the impression that you cannot be trusted not to (your actions seem aggressive or out-of-control)
- You avoid social interaction, so people have no idea what to expect from you
- Your manner of speech including tone, vocabulary, and/or subject matter are menacing or threatening to them or to yourself
- You do not take safety seriously, either for yourself or those around you
- You take pleasure in the discomfort or embarrassment of others.
Asking someone "are you scared of me?" can elicit a positive response, simply because the question itself can be threatening, or asked in a threatening way.
