Do a really good painting, maybe you could paint a portrait of your dad, and then show him how talented you are and he will see it makes sense for you to go to art school:))

Tell him what you'd like to study as this qualification allows you to do a certain job you'd love to have.Like graphic design or art fashion for example and tell him that even in a recession, these kinds of careers are still well-paid and secure.You're basically wanting a good paying job that's safe and that you actually enjoy doing.
Contact teacher that has a masters degree in art and is teaching at one of the local colleges to evaluate your skills to see whether or not you are actually talented enough to be admitted into a art program-that could lead to a future in art as a career.this will show your dad your serious and prove it will be worth throwing cold hard cash at to get you your art degree. Yep,that would be my guess in how to set his mind at ease, and not just wasting your and his tme evne looking into it. : )just a opinion.
