There are no scientific disadvantages of hand practice, also known as masturbation. However there are many urban myths. One urban myth often told by parents is that masturbation can lead to the growth of hair on the palms of your hands, this is a complete myth and there is no scientific proof to support it.
Another urban myth is that hand practices or masturbation can lead to you becoming weak or loss of energy. This is also false and again there is no scientific evidence to support it. Masturbation, just like sex is a form of exercise, it increases heart rate, and increases the work in the muscles, which can lead to the strengthening of muscles and even an increased aerobic capacity. Note that in order to increase your aerobic capacity through masturbation or sex you would have to a significant amount of either and that’s would probably not be healthy as both can become addictive.
There is one small disadvantage which does have some scientific evidence to support it and that is that if you are only using one hand all the time to masturbate, you do increase the muscle strength in that arm, which will obviously make that arm stronger than the other. Though this is the same principle in any form of exercise if you only work out one limb or set of limbs you will increase the muscle strength of those limbs and not the others. Just as it is the same principal the way around it is the same too, you have to give yourself a balance, swapping between arms so that both arms develop at the same speed.
Although there are no real disadvantages of hand practice it is wise to limit the amount you do, as just like all things that can be pleasurable such as sex, drugs and alcohol it can become addictive. To help you cut back try to limit the amount things that may arouse you, e.g. Erotic images. Also try and keep yourself in company as you are unlikely to want to masturbate while others are with you.
