There was a time when children were given a break twice a day for fifteen minutes, and some homework. But nowadays, because our society does not allow children to play unattended, due to high crime, they spend more of their free time doing homework, and playing in school. Which puts a lot of pressure on the parents. Used to be mom would open the door and as long as we were in by a certain time, and we did not have all the games they have today on the net, it was fine and safe. Now, kids have to stay in because of the dangers on the streets, and if they don't well... Some become involved in crime, making a quick buck. It is a loose loose situation in our society. Where is the time for just play without structured time.  All the people I know who did well in life, in general, had time to go out and play while mommy did the dishes. Those who were forced to study, well, either keep going to school as they cannot pay student loans, so become professional students, or unable to cope with the problems of life. Play is a learning tool, which many forget, it teaches children how to get along

Some people believe that children are given too much free time. They feel that this time should be used to do more school work. I totally agree with the idea. There is a proverb,"All works and no play makes jack a dull boy". Even though it looks good, it doesn't make a lot of sense in this age. Let's think about some factors. Why the children need to play?
The reason is that play makes them creative, energetic and brings knowledge and happiness. In play, the children use make-believe so that they can conquer their fears and they get confidence themselves. In addition, they can express their feelings as an action rather than constant reactions. However, are the children able to play well? They spend almost forty hours in a weak in electronic materials such as TV and games. A good toy becomes 80 percent a child and 20 percent a toy. They are spending most of their time in games and TV. They might watch violent movies and play violent games and they may learn wrong education. So It's better to say "Electronic materials and toys make jack a dull boy”.
In schools, there are so many active plans such as sports and social studies for the children so that they will overcome the unnecessary things under the proper guidance of the teachers. They will learn the how to work each other as a team. Now, many schools understand the fact and preparing the school works as a play so that they the children should be used some of their free times for school works.
