So you have exposed something that is suppose to be covered by wood on the ecterior of the house and you want to wait to fix it because it is too cold in Canada. Did I get that right? Here is something ou may not have considered. That "minor broke piece" is now an area that moisture an get into the house. Moisture s a killer for houses. It leads to wood rot and mold growth.  Fix the house while it is a minor repair instead of waiting for it to become a  bigger issue.

It's not exposing the house to the cold at all. It's a weird kind of wood with other panels underneath. It's an old house with old materials haha

I agree with Walt.

First time. LOL

Take pics, call a contractor before your boyfriend leaves on his year of sabbatical without you and fix old uncle's house. Take pics after repair.

A little while ago my dog got in the way of my steering wheel and made me crash into the side of my boyfriends uncles house we rent from. I told him what happened and he just said to fix it. The damage is very minor (maybe the length of a ruler of wood paneling came off the house and is barely noticeable). The other day he came over and said he is writing a claim against my vehicle because the damage isn't fixed yet. My boyfriend assured him we were going to fix it but fixing it in Canadas cold winter weather right now isn't a smart idea so we said we are going to wait for spring. He went off on us and said he is suing me for it (even though he had agreed when the accident happened that it was no big deal). Will he actually be able to win a court battle over this? Its so minor! I'm in nursing school and in debt and this is the last thing i need, or can afford.

If I knew I was gonna get mostly criticized for this question I wouldn't have posted it 😂 And didn't know people knew so little about Canadian weather. It's been winter for us for a month now. -20 Celsius average and two feet of snow😔

I live in Canada! You are representing Canada as being -20 ?? REALLY? We both know that is not true. It's a pretty big country .. if you hadn't noticed. 90 % or more of our country is not experiencing ANY temps below zero currently, never mind minus 20. So lets not pretend you are talking about CANADA, but perhaps the very northern portion of the country .. and a very small portion at that.

That still does not change the fact that you are still obligated to get the repairs done.

Given the way laws are written, I can easily see why it can be a good idea to preserve one's rights through a formal legal proceeding.

Why not get repair estimates and ask him if he will accept a check for one of the estimates to settle the issue; and then he can get it fixed at his convenience?---or at least accept a payment plan.

Just make sure you get everything in writing at this stage of the game.

Thank you for positive advice 😁 Tried to talk to him today about a payment plan but he said no :/ I even told him I'd fix it right away if he stopped with involving a lawyer and that I'd find money somehow to pay and he said he just wants me in Court and threatened to poison my dog if I wrecked anything else (he is kinda psycho)

Well first ... You were driving recklessly, and caused damage to someone's property.  So yeah, they should file a claim against you.

Second ... You seem to think it matters that it was your boyfriend's relative.  It doesn't.  You were still in the wrong.

Third ... Stop whining that it's "unfair" that you have to pay the consequences of your action.  Fix the damage like you promised.  It doesn't matter how cold it is.  Contractors can work in any weather.
