You don't have to say a forever goodbye. You can keep in touch through social media. I have a friend who is living in Taiwan, I keep in touch with that way. I have had friends and relatives live in different parts of Europe. I myself have moved countless times and because I have used social media to keep track of friends I have had quite a few chances to see and catch up with old friends.
So just say goodbye for now, and keep in touch.
