hmm good question , its not bad if u directly ask him , maybe ask him like , as in just an opinion would u date me type thing , and talk to him more , and some guys usually don't know how to respond to this , many guys are shy , give him time and know him more , if he seems to show the signs like starts the convo , or says sweet stuff small comments like u looked nice today , it could mean something , but takin the direct approach would be faster :D good luck
