If kept warm at body temperature (like on the skin or in a warm test tube), they remain motile for several hours. Inside the female reproductive tract, they can live for up to 7 days. They are very sensitive to temperature and moisture and will eventually die outside the body, but since each ejaculate may contain as many as 750 million little tadpoles, and it only takes one "tadpole" to result in pregnancy, precautions are essential. .

I am a medical assistant.  I have heard up to a few days.  However, as soon as it hits the air it dies right away.  Sperm don't live outside the body for very long.

The overwhelming majority (upwards of 85-95%) < less than 60 minutes
BUT 5-10% live 24-72 hours (from a very healthy male and the proper conditions in a woman's body), and sperm pushing records would fall short of 6 days, as 5 days is the longest known.

It depends on a ton of factors - 1/3 from the male + 1/3 from female and the other third from items/events/etc we cannot measure or aren't aware of.
