Why Do Women Have The Power To Wear Tights And Men Can't?

Like Thmpsn, the first thing that came to mind for me was the ballet.  Men definitely wear tights there.

For some reason it is more acceptable in our culture for women to wear
traditionally male clothes than for men to wear traditionally female
clothing.  There are men who wear women's clothes.  It would
probably be difficult for a man to wear tights and not, at the very
least, get some comments about it.

Speaking for myself, I don't think it's anybody's business what a
person wears, as long as he (or she) is not harming anyone.  At my
place of business, I used to have a male customer who wore a long
dress, gloves with the fingers cut off, lots of jewelry and sometimes
flowers in his long hair.  He also had a beard.  He was
always really nice and a pleasure to wait on.  I had the utmost
respect for him, he chose his own path and followed it.  I think
that's cool!

There is always the stigma that men who would wear tights are feminine, gay or just down right strange. If you really want to wear tights, such as outdoors and in public, then you simply should, and not worry about what others might think, or say. I wear spandex tights when running, biking, cross country skiing and hiking. I do get some looks and stares from both women and men; it is apparent to me that some are quite accepting, others; I don't know what they are thinking, perhaps with approval, or with scorn; but that is there problem and not mine. I am in my early 50s now, but I did take a few months of ballet when I was 14/15 years old. I wore the back opague tights and required white tee shirt; I am not interested in taking ballet now, but if boy or adult men wish to, then they should.

I wear 40 Denier black tights with lycra  when cycling. They feel good, I  have less cramps and they keep my legs warm. I would rather wear these at £5 per pair than pay £70 plus for some so called cycling tights. I do get some looks sometimes when stopped at lights, as the tights get quite sheer at the knees and thighs when my legs are bent. But I have neve had any problems.

I would venture to say that most women and men who do wear tights have attractive figures.  I have never seen a large women or man wear tights that enhanced their physique.
In those instances where men wear tights, it's typically men who are acrobatics or circus performers who stay in top physical conditioning and have attractive physiques.  Most adult men do not possess the physique to carry it off and in most instances who wants a out of shape man wearing tights, especially in those instances where his gut and junk are bulging out in such a way that the visual resembles two possums fighting in a gunny sack.

But men can! Its as simple as that. Men have the power to wear anything they want just like women do. All these boundaries are arbitrary anyway. The majority of men, unfortunately, are too sucked into the male stereotype that they wont break out of it. Fortunately some disregard it. I admire those minority of men who break away from the run of the mill boring mens clothing. I'm not talking about cross dressers or trans gendered here exclusively either.  But also those free thinking men, like my partner for example, who is open minded enough to buy a top or blouse because it looks cool and interesting without worrying if it technically a womans or mens. Because at the end of the day it doesnt matter!

This is very true! I'm surprised that tights aren't more commonly worn by both genders. Unfortunately, we live in a culture that sees things such as this as "girly" and so, the implication is that if men wear tights/skirts etc they are somehow less than or weak. This is completely stupid when such items of clothing may actually be practical/warm/comfortable etc.

Answers here are great. But some uses of tights are normal, diving skins, English riding (men and women).  When I work on our country property, cutting brush (with power machine) I usually wear very tight women jeans but they all have good stretch.  A few asked me if I am gay - I  said,  yes, lesbian, only go out with women.

Others asked why, and when I explain, not too long afterwards I see them in tight jeans on their country property.  As it is very hot and humid, it absorbes the sweat produced from all surfaces of your skin, and the slightest breeze or only walking gives a great cooling effect.  In addition when I get home and change, take a shower there is not one insect, such as dangerous ticks, or bitting ants that have crawled up my legs.

I am on horses a lot. Ride a long ride of several days with baggy jeans on, and see if you have any skin left under the jeans.  The material moves over the skin and very quickly has the same effect as sand paper.  Around machinery that has moving parts and open áreas, you do not want to be grabbed by some machine and torn apart or cut!  Ride a bike, baggy jeans, will get them caught in the pedal sprocket gear(s).

There are many good reasons to wear tight jeans or whatever. If you look partially good, it feels good, then do it.  Sometimes if you do not look so good with rolls of skin showing, it is a good motivation for you to get on a diet, stay on it, and do exercise which is good for your health.  Do not listen to others, as Nike said years ago, "just do it".
