Are you older and wiser? Or just old?

I'm definitely older.  I'm not sure if it's that I've learned from my experiences, OR:

Wise is up for debate.  I'll just have fun with being "Happy."

Much older, not much wiser but less stupid. That make sense?

I'm older, anyway.

Confucius had an interesting take on it. He said, "Old age, believe me, is
a good and pleasant thing. It is true you are gently shouldered off the
stage, but then you are given such a comfortable front stall as
spectator."

I gotta confess, I'm more of a spectator than a participant these days.

Unfortunately, the wisdom came at a price . . . Living life, and time.

My wisdom was paid in full with the years I have lived . . .

I would say that as I've grown older, I've come to doubt more the adage that age brings wisdom. To quote the Roman playwright Plautus who said, "Wisdom is attained not by years, but by experience".

To wit: I make the analogy of wisdom being like pollen accumulating on the bee as it goes about from one flower to the next, dispensing it's bounty along the way.

Might that my advancing years lead me to such bee-hood, but I'll leave that judgment to others. I don't seek to flatter myself.

Some people with 20 years of experience simply have the same experience 20 years in a row---as you say, it's experience, not age.

I like the pollen analogy---it allows for synergism, percolation, and serendipity to produce new insights from knowledge already acquired.

And, yes, "bee-hood" is quite satisfying.

Indeed, it is the very serendipity of wisdom that drew me to this metaphor. Would that we all could bear our full share of pollen. Cheers, Tom.
