Usually if it by surprise it is synonymous with betrayal.
If you can see it coming, you've departed from the relationship you have had and set it to one that is adversarial and in expectation of malfeasance.

Yes. I have never trusted people, except for one. I was always paranoid about making friends because I thought many of them were making fun of me by pretending to like me... Except for this friend. I couldn't doubt her. But then she dumped our friendship from out of the blue.
