In phy-ed this year there is a swimming unit. I'm really nervous because we have to take our shirts off which makes me uncomfortable. What should I do?

Feeling nervous getting changed for swimming in front of others is normal; it's a strange time when your body is changing, and you feel uncomfortable standing exposed with other people who may look different to you.

However, they are probably feeling exactly the same discomfort so try not to worry. I know it's difficult, but the worst thing you can do here is look uncomfortable.
If you can fake confidence, I doubt anyone will even notice you there; they will be too self conscious of their own bodies.

It's only the ones who cower up in the corner, and try to disappear into the toilet to change, etc. That get singled out because they look as though they are trying to hide something.

Concentrate on the fact that it's just a swimming lesson, the emphasis is not on how you or anyone else, looks. It's about learning to be a strong swimmer, and that is a very important skill.

I have the same problem, but I'm also nervous about just changing in the locker room. I thought changing in the bathroom stalls might be a good idea but kids made fun of me for that. It's so frustrating.
