A paternity test is undertaken to find out whether a man is the biological father of a certain individual. If there is any doubt about the parentage of an individual, then one can pass a legal action and demand for a paternity test in order to prove that the man is the biological father. A man can be forced to take the paternity test if the court deems it to be necessary. The court can force a man to take a paternity test in order to determine parentage, mainly for the purposes of establishing an order for child support. If a man refuses to take a paternity test, he may be charged with contempt of court and be punished accordingly. This legal action can be easily initiated by the parties concerned and the man will have no choice but to comply if the court has passed a judgment in favor of the paternity test.
