You bet your ass!! That child must be a kid that has finally driven his parent over the edge to make a decision like that. That "child" is not a child in eyes of the law. That ADULT is 18 years old and the parent owes that Adult nothing. That Adult needs to take responsibility for themselves now, Sounds like that ADULT already thought they knew everything to the point of their parent wanting them out.
