There is no real strict rule for what a 12-year-old boy should be wearing for bed. At 12 years-old, they most likely have a strong opinion of what clothes they do and do not like to wear, and this is probably the same when it comes to bedtime.
If the 12 year-old wants to wear his favorite pair of shorts and tee-shirt to bed then there is little point in saying no. It will keep him happy and is certainly doing no harm. However if he has no real opinion on what he wants to wear for bed then you have a little more scope. The best type of clothes for bed are obviously pajamas - as this is what they are designed for.
The material in pajamas are very soft and so very comfortable. This soft material ensures a good night's sleep and also keeps the child warm in the colder hours of the night. However if it is summer and you live somewhere very humid then there is no real harm in the child sleeping in only some short bottoms or his underwear.
He is likely to get a better night's sleep if he is at a decent temperature than be sweating away in a full pajama set. Pajamas can be found in most clothes stores and will be in the children's section along with the day wear clothes. It would be a good idea to take your 12 year-old with you when you shop for them. This way he can choose exactly what he wants to wear and so is more likely to wear it when he gets home.
I'm also 12 years old. At home I sleep nude but when ihave a sleepover I wear boxers. Besides kids move from tidywidys to briefs to boxers so get him some boxer so he don't get embarrased in gym. Anyway if he wants to sleep naked let him!!!just get a bathrobe to cover up. If he wants to wear boxers let him..
Hope this helps
I am 13 and I wear only boxers, sometimes if it is hot out I'll go nude:)
Let him wear breifs or boxers or if he feels fine in the nude I am 12 and sleep in the nude if he does sleep nude put a bathrobe or cloths by his bed good luck
Wearing boxers or underwear to bed, totally normal at that age.
I'm 14 and I have worn boxers for a few years. When I sleep over friends house or they come here we all wear boxers and go shirtless. It is comfortable. I hope I helped.
Face the fact that your little boy is growing up, he will be a teenager very soon. Let him make his own decision on what to wear (or not) to bed.
He needs a little freedom of personal choice.
Um well in the privacy of his own room I think he can wear anything he pleases but yes of course he should wear a bathrobe or something if he leaves his room.
I work with a youth group for middle school students called Wyldlife. It is the junior version of the better known group for high school kids called Young Life. The kids attend a weekly session of games and fellowship called Club.
One activity is where every week a group of kids and leaders do a surprise wake up call on one of the students and take them out to breakfast. The wake up is filmed and shown at club or put on the chapter website.
What all this has to do with your 12 year old is that in the several years we've been waking up 11, 12, 13 and 14 year olds, I don't recall ever seeing a boy who still wore pajamas to bed.
Boys that age sleep in some kind of shorts (boxers, basketball shorts, gym shorts etc.).
Boys also sleep completely bare chested. We've probably awakened about 24 boys over the last several years and not one has been wearing a shirt of any type in bed.
Your son wanting to sleep in underwear at 12 instead of pajamas is understandable.
12 is old enough for him to decide for himself what he wants to wear to bed. You as the parent can of course make him wear what you want as long as he lives under your roof, but this is an area where you should probably let him make his own choice.
According to cotton marketing research, boxer shorts are the most popular sleep attire for boys in your son's age range, so it would not be unusual for him to sleep in his underwear.
Research also shows that among boys in the 9 to 12 year old age group, slightly over 50% usually sleep shirtless. By age 13, 2 thirds sleep without a shirt and by 18, 80% of males sleep bare chested.
Let him wear what ever he wants I'm 12 and wear boxers to bed ,school ,and evry day so and I do sleep with a shirt on so there is nothing to worry about.hope this helped
Let him wear whatever he want's to wear t bed.
I'm 12 years old and I wear boxers in bed.
I usually also walk around house in my boxers.
When I sleep over friends house or they come here we all wear boxers.
No one wears whitey tideys in our school
if you did I don't know what would happen in gym.
I'm 15 and I have worn boxers for a few years. I changed when I went on a school trip and the 2 people I shared a room with all wore boxers so I looked a bit stupid. Now when ever I sleep over a friends house I always wear boxers (and so do they). Very few people in my year at school (year 10) still wear pyjamas in fact I don't know anyone that does, honestly I think that you should allow him to wear what ever he wants after all if he is more comfortable just wearing boxers then let him. Hope this helps !!!!
Whatever he wants to wear, it's nothing to do with you.
Whatever he finds most comfortable to sleep in. And if that proves to be is birthday suit, well why not? Our kids haven't worn a stitch in bed since they were dry at night, and they don't seem to have come to ny harm.
He should wear what ever he wants. If he wants to walk around in his underwear then let him.
I sleep in my boxers and I am 12 years old, they are so comfortable and I can sleep better because you do not feel to enclosed
If he wants to wear underwear to bed let him!! Lots of boys wear underwear to bed! Just make sure they are boxers!!!!!! My brother wears boxers and a shirt to bed!! So if he likes it let him!!
Well, I'm a twelve year old boy and I sleep in boxers. Sometimes I wear a shirt, sometimes not. When I sleep over at a friend's house, or a friend sleeps over at mine, they do the same thing. You are the parent, you can tell your kid what to do.
BUT! At this age, your child is about to grow more independent (if he hasn't already) and this is one decision you should let him make. It is technically your choice, but I urge you to let him make it this time. Hope this helps!
