The soft spot is the area on top of the head where the bones of the skull have not quite joined. This should be closed as early as possible. The normal range is 9 months to 2 years. If the soft spot does close early, it can cause craniosynostosis, which can cause some problems like vision difficulties and significant disfigurement of the face.
