Unless you play barefooted, what difference does a big toe matter as with a shoe on, you use your foot as a whole and its mind over matter here and with lots of practice, you learn to react to the ball naturally and automatically and don't have to think about ball control. Now if your foot falls "asleep" then you have a medical problem and maybe shouldn't be playing soccer so practice and then practice more until playing soccer becomes as natural as walking to the store.
