My maternal grandmother used to make bread pudding.

It was memorably disgusting in every way.

It was used as ballast in WW2 warships and we used to use it as rat poison.

More dangerous that plutonium, more insidious than kryptonite.

I remember her making it.

Granny was old, old, old school, never used a recipe. She fed 30 relatives 7 days a week. In fact anyone who came to breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Best Yeast Biscuits, cakes, pies, real fried chicken and gravy. She had it all in her head. Smacking my lips just thinking about her and her cooking.

My maternal grandmother made the best bacon wrapped filled meatloaf. She also made a very good shortcake.

My husband and I were talking about our Grandmas. He said his Grandma was known for her fried chicken. My favorite dish from my Grandma was her "Granny eggs!" LOL!

One of my grandmothers moved back to her hometown in England before I was born, abandoning her 5 kids and leaving them to live with the family chauffeur. Never had her food.

My other grandmother only made food that came in those newfangled things called cans. Canned meat, canned beans, canned potatoes, etc. I only have nightmares of her food.

One grandmother was a housekeeper. Anything she cooked was good. She made this one dish which I can't eat anymore, and it was probably one of the most unhealthy, greasy things ever but it was good! She called Easy Beef and Noodles. It was seasoned ground beef layered in a casserole dish. The other layers were shredded cheddar cheese, and egg noodles. She also made great Christmas cookies.

My other grandmother took us out to eat a lot.

That dish sounds doable to me as a different flavor to give to the Yin and Yang household. I don't eat ground beef but I know my picky ways around it! LOLOLOL! Thank you for answering my friend! :0)

I don't eat ground beef anymore either. I tried it with turkey and it was too dry. Hmm, maybe I should try ground pork?

ICK! I am not much of a meat eater. I wouldnt know about that pork. Lol! However something I have discovered is that people put love into their dish and it just automatically tastes good somehow. I kid you not... I could buy the same exact ingredients as my husband does, cook a meal exactly the way he does and it comes out not as good as his.... We have tested the theory and come to the conclusion it is the love he puts into it. My cooking style is "lets get this prison sentence over with as quick as possible!" Lololol

I never met either of my grandmas. They had long passed on by the time I turned up. Mum and Dad were so old when I was born that I guess they were de facto grandparents.

I love your vocabulary! I learn something new everyday! Lol! Soooo what you are saying in a latin sense.... that your parents were in a way like your grandparents as well!?!? Did I get it right? 😃

You definitely got it right but, in fact, I was really playing with the word. They were so old that they felt like grandparents. They were certainly as old as my friends' grandparents.

My maternal grandmother was one of the best cooks I've ever known. She made these little fried donuts that were covered in this butter brown sugar glaze. She also made the best teriyaki steak and corned beef and cabbage. She was this little thing who learned how to cook American dishes because of me. Her sister made the best lasagne and this layered jello salad that was all the rage in the 70's.

My fraternal grandmother passed when I was a few months old. I heard she was an exceptional cook who made the best fried chicken and walnut pie. I have never found a recipe for walnut pie. I wonder if it's like a pecan pie.

So many wonderful things.  I loved her carrot pudding cake with warm lemon sauce.  Also her homemade hash made with the meat grinder from leftover roast and potatoes and onions.  Her soups were the best; she even made homemade egg noodles.  How I miss my grandma!
