Genitals can change color on both males / females. He is best to go see doctor if he thinks that the color is not good. Redness can be sign of some type of infection but there can be no problem and still be red. Remember that blood rushes to genitals when one is stimulated sxually too so really hard to tell. Only a doctor can tell him whether he's got problem going on down there..
