There are just so many to choose from. And ‘cute’ is surely in the ear of the hearer... If you know what I mean.
Now popular is easy. In the USA, UK and Australia - it would seem we are going back to the traditional and slightly foreign sounding names.
Sophia - a little more sophisticated than Sophie
Isabella - daintier than Isabel
Emily, Amelia and Charlotte - straight out of a Jane Austen novel!
In the USA, Madison and Harper (thanks for the latter to David Beckham) are very popular, while in the UK and Australia they still like their flowers - Poppy, Lily and Rosie are just too sweet for words!
But back to cute.
Trouble is - girls grow up and what was ‘cute’ when they were three isn’t always so when they turn out to be great big teenagers with enormous thighs!
Suppose Grace doesn’t grow up gracefully? Or Patience is always in a hurry? Scarlett might end up colourless, and Charity the meanest girl you could meet!
If you stick to Bible names you can’t go wrong can you?
Eve, Martha, Mary, and Esther are just fine - but you could be a little more adventurous.
What about Jemimah, Keziah and Keren-Happuch? These are the three daughters of Job and believe it or not my friend is called Keren-Happuch! She calls herself Keren because she got fed up with people saying, ‘Keren who?” Great name though.
Sometimes parents get carried away don’t they? Like the previous example I think everyone should be more thoughtful and considerate of the person who has to carry their name for the rest of their life.
One mum I know well, recently called her daughter Rubyp - and no it’s not a typo. It’s pronounced Rubypee. Ruby with letter p stuck on the end. It’s not for me - but maybe I shouldn’t feel sorry for her - maybe Rubyp will love her name - maybe one day she’ll think it’s cute.
