Patients are completely able to lead a normal sex life after having a hysterectomy, but are advised to wait at least four weeks before trying to do so.
Most people won't feel quite ready to have sex two weeks after such a major operation, so I'd recommend that you follow the advice of your doctor.Sexual issues following a hysterectomy
Some women may experience a few issues following their operation, including the following:
- Lack of sex drive - often a side effect of induced menopause, it's not uncommon for women to lose their desire to have sex after having a hysterectomy. Sex drive may return to normal levels after the healing process is complete.
- Reduced sexual sensation - this has been observed in some women, many of which claimed to feel penetration less. This is not always the case, however.
- Vaginal dryness - the solution to this is an artificial lubricant found at most chemists and stores.
If your sex drive remains the same, then great! You should always follow the advice of your doctor, but should be fine to have sex within 4 to 6 weeks of having a hysterectomy.
