Rootschat UK is a free website which covers all aspects of genealogy and family history for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It covers the whole of Ireland, including the Irish Republic.

Rootschat began a couple of years ago and had few members but it has grown and now has a membership of thousands.

It's a brilliant site , people give time and help freely and being a member is like being a member of a friendly community.
There are many subsections within each group. For example if you're researching Cheshire ancestors and you live a long way from Cheshire there's always some kind person who'll do look ups for you.
You choose a section, post a request and there's usually someone who'll help you.
There are regional 'meets' when groups get together. I attended a 'meet' to meet other people researching Irish family history and we had a great time meeting each other and helping with research hints. We also went with local members to find the best places to find records.
I would recommend anyone in the world who's researching British and Irish family history to join.
