Pepcid is not recommended/indicated for temporary heartburn in children. It is a drug generally used or indicated for short term therapy for acid reflux or ulcer disease, therefore the dosage for a temporary case of heartburn, and especially for children, is not specified by the manufacturer nor recommended.
If you have pepto-bismol or chewable Tums that would be a much better alternative for an 8-year old child.
If you want to use something even safer, chamomile tea or ginger tea both are known to calm the stomach and provide relief from heartburn... Good luck.
