There is no 'red light zone' in Rotterdam - but that doesn't mean there's nowhere in the city to get your kinky kicks!

Rotterdam's red light zone
If you're planning a trip to Rotterdam, you may be disappointed to find out that the city doesn't have a designated red light district in the same way as does Amsterdam.

Instead, there are a number of brothel-like 'private houses' (or privehuizen) that you can visit for some titillating thrills.

Finding them can be a little tricky, though - as the websites of these private houses tend to be out-dated and difficult to navigate.

The fact that Rotterdam's private houses tend to pop up and then disappear after a year or two doesn't help the situation either.

Finding a brothel in Rotterdam
Although some private houses advertise in the back pages of the Algemeen Dagblad (Rotterdam's local newspaper), you may need the help of the locals, as most ads are published in Dutch.

Another thing to bear in mind is that most private houses don't have glitzy neon signs hanging above their door. In fact most of them don't even operate under a specific name, but just advertise under their address instead.

I found the site ignatzmice.com/Rotterdam very helpful, it has a list of updated locations that you may want to check out!
