Why Do Emos Cut Themselves?

They do it because they'd rather feel pain than nothing. While some just want to do it for attention most true "emo" do it for some type of feeling. I just people would stop making a big deal about it I mean it's what helps them get through things emotionally its not a bad thing it's their life leave them.. ... Us... Alone

Well some of them have emotional issues and if you know someone who cuts themselves you might want to get some one who may assist you in getting help for that person...

I've been told that people who cut themselves suffer from a mental illness that makes them feel numb, or unable to feel emotion. Cutting themselves, rather than an act of self-hatred as some say, is actually an effort to make themselves feel something and therefore reaffirm that they are alive. A cutter needs help, not judgement.

Well cutting releases us into our own world where there are no wars, no bullies, no pollution, just life, death and peace. We feel good about ourselves. And to stay in our own little worlds we cut just deep enough to pass out but not to hurt badly. And like I said some of us don't even cut ourselves, and yes.. I am emo and I am proud.

Emos cut themselves because they have problems and feelings.Emos want people to look at them like if they are regular people.They also cut them selves because they think it's cool.Emos are humans too.So people be nice with them so they would not feel sad and cut themselves. I am a human being too. So remember, emos are not that bad. We need to make them happy and excited, not sad. There's nothing wrong with emos.

It's their way of expression... If you never had anything to express imagine how you would feel? Emo'z just go through tough things and sometimes you just have to help and be understanding to their problemz, hey their feelings matter too and so does everyone. Please remember not to mock the Emos they are God's creations too. Hurting them is like you're hurting god himself, because they came from him, we all did.... As it is said- when one hurts one of god's creations you hurt others as well...

The pain is not felt

Because emo is short for emotional. They get so emotional and scared, sometimes, they feel has though cutting themselves or dying, will solve the problem.

Ok well we do because we feel that we have to so don't be putting us down because theres nothing wrong with us and no were not dumb or stupid and I feel you should stop calling us name because you ain't nothing to us but normal retards!!!

I'm a emo but I don't cut myself will I didnt once but it did'nt make me happy it made me cry even more I chould'nt stand it...!!!

Well, it's kind of hard to explain unless you do it yourself.
In my case, basically I've been emo since I was in primary school because I've had a lot of shit happen in my life to make me feel this way. Technically the reason I cut is to get rid of the pain that's in my heart because of what's happened/happening, and replace it with the pain that I'd feel in my arm when I cut, however some people say you may think that it's helping, when infact it's not...it's just leaving scars on your arm. But it really helps for me. :/

Not all of us cut ourselves than you we do it simply to forget whats going on in the world I myself don't cut I used to but I quit because I met an amazing gut that said he would love me more with out my razorblade so just leave us alone yes we are different and yes we want to be treated equally just I don't know leave us alone please. If it's what we want to do then let us do it we are people and nobody is perfect nobody! So yeah

They are very depress people.

Not all of us do, but if we do it's because we have no other way to express ourselves so we do it. It reminds us that were still alive and can feel pain .

To be able to be emo you have 2 cut your self with a knife that you use to cut tough meat like me I cut myself on my wrist 4 times

Most emo's are teenagers who crave attention. They feel as if they're lonely and misunderstood. By cutting themselves, they feel a rush and believe that they're letting anger out and helping themselves.

You can look on the internet emo poems,pictures,ect. It tells it all. Very disturbing chain of thoughts, most people just think it is a fashion thing. They are way off base.

One reason: Purely for attention. True self mutilators never tell anybody about their addiction because of their shame, and they never cut anywhere people can see. If you have an emo friend who is cutting on their arms in such in plain sight, here's some advice to give them:
