What are some proven ways to get rid of a bad habit? I know several methods and have used them myself...I just need some reminders. Personal experiences would be a great help too!

I was a fairly heavy drinker until about 1977 but I gave up overnight., All you need is enough motivation.  I fell off a train -- and it wasn't even the train I was supposed to be on. I figured one warning was enough.

That's probably a bit too dramatic to suit your purposes but different habits require different techniques., It just takes something to break the cycle. Once you do that it tends to becomes less of a habit and more of a choice.

Thanks, Beth. We didn't meet very often but I do recall the name. We're obviously going to make different contacts with different people on here. It looks like a very good site. Still I got so used to Ask that I'll miss it.

That's a very dramatic tale. I once heard of a man that when drunk driving his pickup truck, he fell out and managed to drive over his own legs. Broke them both. The truck and his legs. ;)

By starting a good opposite habit. Create one of these, print it out, and post it on your wall. shufflemylife.com/49days/

For every day that you do, or not do a certain thing, place a mark in the box. After 49 days of completion, reward yourself. Congrats, you have a new habit.

Personally this has helped me develop a habit for many things including daily journal writing, meditating, and getting through my first round of p90x. Hopefully it can help you on your journey.

Also, you only need motivation to get started, you need discipline to keep going. Get Disciplined
