You could do a nice card and some flowers, or a card and some chocolate, if you're older, some jewelry. A nice romantic dinner, a good movie and popcorn snuggling under a blanket, or the best thing ever....Just your time and a simple I love you!

Women like flowers, pendents, bracelets. You can choose something with heart symbols or some item in a form of a heart. For instance a wristwatch in a form of a heart or with love symbols.

I like the idea of sending balloons on Valentines Day, especially getting them delivered to her doorstep with a note signed off with the words "from your secret admirer".

Really though, it comes down to what your partner enjoys.

Some people might find balloons, flowers and chocolates tacky, others might like the "old school" romance appeal of it all.

At the end of the day, as long as you guys have a great time together, and have a few photos to show off on Facebook, Twitter or whatever social media platform you use, then I don't think your partner could ask for more.

If you really wanted to go all out to surprize that special person in your life, I guess you could plan a romantic weekend away.

This would require a lot of planning and a sizeable budget in most cases, but it is likely to have a very positive effect on your relationship.

Popular romantic holiday destinations include Paris, Rome and Venice... If you're thinking of going down this route!
