How old is she? Spending time with your daughter is the first step. Do things together you both enjoy, if she's old enough, try cooking together, shopping, crafts. If she's younger, color, make sugar cookies and let her roll them out and use cookie cutters! Just spend real time with her, not tv, video games and the like, something that requires interaction between you! Just have fun!

Not having any children of my own, I can only answer from the perspective of how I would have most liked my parents to bond with me. I think that these three rules of thumb foster a generally positive environment for bonding:

  • Give them their own space and take their autonomy seriously
  • Support and encourage their interests
  • Suggest fun and age-appropriate activities, with no insistence or deadlines on spending time together
