How do I hide my cut marks on arm. I don't do it anymore, they're just scars. It's too hot for long sleeves and I wear no jewelry. Any ideas?

Buy some camaflage make up/foundation like Sheer Cover or BB Cream in a colour that will suit your skin tone and cover the cut marks with it and seal it with make-up  spray that helps make up stay in place.  Or you could swear loose tunics and tops and summer cardigans so that you are cool and covering them.

There are two main ways to either remove or hide cut marks from your arms in case it is too hot for long sleeves, or if you don´t want to wear bracelets.

The most radical and effective (but also the most painful and expensive) option is to have treatment with a laser beam or to undergo plastic surgery.

You will need several sessions until they are completely gone. It is a lengthy process, but once complete you will need little to no make up for a perfect result.

The other way is more immediate, easier and much cheaper and it involves simply covering them up with make up.

Now this cannot be any make up, as a low quality make up will not cover it up properly, it will also wear off quickly and usually in the most inappropriate settings, like when you are nervous and sweating, leaving stains all over your clothes.

Make sure to do some research when it comes to the best possible make up you could use for this, always taking into account your skin type, any allergies you might have and, of course, your skin tone.

When I looked for adequate makeup for your case, I came across the video below and I was genuinely impressed by the results!

The brand used in the video is dermatologically tested and known to be very well tolerated by pretty much all skin types.

Finally I would also suggest that instead of just covering the cuts on your arms that you also seek some professionally trained help. To really manage this, you need to find the reasons why you cut yourself in the first place. Psychologists are there to help, don't be afraid to ask for it.

I hope this helped.

There are several ways to reduce the visibility of scars, including wearing make-up, plastic surgery, tattoos, and healing creams. I'll explore the options in a bit more detail below.

How to reduce the visibility of scars

Personally, I think the most effective thing you can do is focus on healing the scars. Of course they may be very old, but the skin will still be repairing itself.  I actually have some scars myself, and as it's been some years now since they were made, they have faded and changed colour to the point that they are barely visible.

You can buy healing creams designed to help reduce the appearance of scars, like Bio Oil. Most moisturisers which contain vitamin E will also do an equally good job and will probably save you some money, too. However, my favourite is coconut oil, it goes a long way, is natural, and I found it to be the most effective.

Exfoliation also helps to encourage healing of old scars. Here is a home remedy tutorial which you can try to help speed up the fading process:

The other options:

  • Makeup - this can be effective, although, you may have to buy specialist makeup depending on how extensive the scaring is. This option may also be costly and time consuming
  • Plastic surgery - This may leave scarring of a different nature, and will also be quite expensive. Surgery also comes with health risks of its own
  • Tattoos - Scars can be tattooed over, although this can be difficult for tattoo artists because of the uneven nature of the skin. You may need to find a tattoo artist who specialises in tattooing scars to ensure you get the desired result.

It's so great that you have moved passed that phase in your life, and over time your scars will become next to invisible. Naturally you will always be more aware of them, and it may even be that they may already be less noticeable others.

I think the best thing you can do is embrace your scars and accept that they are a part of your story. They are scars, not wounds, and they are a reminder of the strength you found to overcome hardship.
