There are plenty of pros and cons of staying with your parents until you get married. Foremost among the pros is the fact that you can save lots of money. Foremost among the cons is the fact you may lag behind in maturity by not taking on responsibility.

By staying home longer a person can take advantage of having all of the amenities of a 5-star hotel. You have your own cook free of charge, a laundry person who already knows how to wash your wardrobe, a landscaper, an alarm clock, and you get to live in a nice place free of rent. You can save money for college or save money for a place of your own while living comfortably and safe. And if you are already attending college, the cost will go down significantly if you don't have to pay for room and board.

There are some drawbacks to living with your parents until you are ready to be married. By getting going out on your own you'll get some much needed seasoning and maturity that you won't get staying at home. You can also gain valuable credit and credibility with the utility company, the phone company, and a reference in a landlord that will all save you money down the road. You get valuable experience in making a budget and sticking with it, and if you don't already know how to cook, you'll either learn very fast or go hungry.

There are a number of very good reasons for staying home and hitting the road and getting out on your own, you need to look at your individual situation to see which scenario makes more sense for you. Whichever option you choose, stick with it and make the very best out of the option that you chose.

Living with your parents once married has some difficult aspects to consider. Generally the parents "on board" will favor their own family member -even if unintentionally so. The other illusion is you'll save money to buy a place. Prices are always on the rise. Better to have a trailer with little space than a nice apartment. This will give you time to iron out your differences. I've heard it said you 'really' don't know someone until you've lived with them (alone together) for two years. There are things easier worked out than in the presence of others. If you do decide to stay with your parents-PAY THEM WELL. It cost a lot to add two more people on board. Parents become good at controlling costs by experience, but controlling people's habits are a much bigger problem.
